Backups and restores

How Drasken Cloud backs up MySQL, PostgreSQL and Valkey databases on your schedule, how to restore into a new database, and volume snapshots.

Drasken Cloud backs up every MySQL, PostgreSQL and durable Valkey database automatically — daily and kept for 7 days unless you choose another schedule — using each engine's own backup tools. You can back up at any moment with Back up now, and restore a PostgreSQL or Valkey backup into a new database. Volumes can have snapshots and backups too; restoring them is coming soon.

Database backups

Each database's Backups tab lists its backups and its schedule; Public Cloud → Backups lists every backup in the project.

EngineBackupsRestore
MySQL 8.4YesComing soon
PostgreSQL 17, 18YesInto a new database
Valkey, durable modeYesInto a new database
Valkey, cache modeNo — a cache keeps nothing on disk—

Backups hold the database's data and are stored away from the database itself.

How do I change the backup schedule?

On the database's Backups tab, choose how often — Every 6 hours, Every 12 hours, Daily or Weekly, at a time in your local time — and how long to keep each backup, from 1 to 35 days.

How do I take a backup now?

Select Back up now on the database's Backups tab, for example before a risky change. It appears in the list when it finishes.

How do I restore a backup?

Restoring always creates a new database, so the original is never touched:

  1. On the database's Backups tab, select Restore next to the backup.
  2. The create page opens with the engine and version fixed. Pick a size and name the new database.
  3. Select Create and restore.

The new database has its own address and password. When you have checked it, point your apps at it. Restoring MySQL backups, and restoring into the same database, are coming soon.

What happens to backups when I delete a database?

They are kept unless you tick Delete backups when you delete it (unticked by default). You can delete a backup from the list at any time.

Volume snapshots and backups

Under Public Cloud → Snapshots and Public Cloud → Backups, and on each volume's tabs, you can take a snapshot of a volume, back it up and delete snapshots and backups.

Restoring a volume from a snapshot or a backup is coming soon, as are backup schedules you set yourself.
