Connect to a database

Find a Drasken Cloud database's address, user and password, connect from your apps over TLS, and change the password without downtime.

Your apps and jobs connect to a database at the address on its Connect tab, with its user and password, over TLS. The tab gives ready-made connection strings (URI, JDBC and command line) and the CA certificate; the password can be revealed once, so store it in an environment group secret as soon as you see it.

Where are the connection details?

Open the database and its Connect tab. Under From your project you find:

  • Host and Port
  • User and Database
  • TLS: Required or Optional
  • connection strings as URI, JDBC and Command line
  • Download CA certificate, to verify the server's certificate

How do I see the password?

Select Reveal password. Each password can be revealed once; after that the console can't show it again. If you lose it, change it.

How do I connect my app?

  1. Copy the URI from the Connect tab.
  2. Put it in a secret variable, for example DATABASE_URL, on the app or in an environment group shared by the apps that use the database.
  3. Deploy the app. Most frameworks read DATABASE_URL directly.

The database is reachable from every app and job in the same project; nothing outside the project can reach it.

How do I change the password without downtime?

Select Change password, then choose how long the old password keeps working: 1 hour, 24 hours, or Stop it now. Update your apps with the new password within that time, and nothing loses its connection.

Can I connect from my computer or another cloud?

Connections from the internet are coming soon. Until then, connect from an app or a job in the same project.

How many connections can I open?

Each plan has a maximum; see Pricing. If you set a lower Maximum connections, that applies. Use a connection pool in your app so restarts and new instances don't exhaust it.
